On the Hochobir leads a technically less demanding hiking trail - the Simon Rieger Steig - but requires some stamina. The trail first leads through beautiful forest and in the summit area over gentle alpine pastures. The Hochobir is rightly considered a great viewpoint: the Klagenfurt basin, the Jauntal valley, the bizarre Steiner Alps and a large part of the Karawanken mountains present themselves.
The descent to the Eisenkappler Hütte leads past the ruins of the Rainer Schutzhaus to the so-called "cold spring". Old tunnels and spoil heaps bear witness to the fact that ore was mined on the Hochobir until the 20th century. Crossing the Obiralm and the southern side of the mountain, you return to the Schaidasattel.

From Klagenfurt to Ferlach and to Zell Pfarre, continue to Zell-Freibach, turn right here, approx. 2.5 km to Schaidasattel

Directions
Start: parking lot at the Schaidasattel.
Via the well-marked Simon Rieger Steig (623) to the summit of Hochobir. The descent follows the ascent to the ruins of the Rainer Schutzhaus. Here the paths separate: either via the already known ascent back down to the starting point or via well-trodden path in an easterly direction keeping to the mountain ridge to the "Kalten Quelle" (1,890m) and continue hiking down to the Eisenkappler Hütte. Descending from the Eisenkappler hut you reach the starting point at the Schaidasattel on a marked trail.
