Pilgrimage routes in the Wörthersee-Rosental region In the footsteps of the Church and its saints.

The Wörthersee-Rosental region is crisscrossed by three renowned pilgrimage trails. With Maria Wörth, Lake Wörthersee has probably one of the most romantic places on the Marian pilgrimage route. The paths to the resting place of St. Hemma once led pilgrims from the south over the Karawanken, the Rosental and the Wörthersee towards Gurk. With the Way of St. James, coming from the south in the direction of the parish church of St. Jacob in Villach, no way seems to have led past our region.

Below you will find the respective stages of the pilgrimage routes in our region and the links to the extensive website of Pilgrimage in Carinthiathe entire routes.

Way of St. James Step by step towards Santiago di Compostela

Probably since the Middle Ages, pilgrims coming from the south walked the Way of St. James in the direction of Spain to the tomb of St. James along the paths that are signposted today. A central point was and is the parish church of St. James in Villach, which also forms about half of the total distance of the Carinthian Way of St. James.

The first pilgrimages from Carniola to Gurk could be proved for the year 1607. Today 8 star tours lead from all directions to Gurk.
