Directions

Starting at the parish church, leave Ferlach in a westerly direction. Via the main square you reach Rosental Straße, which you follow for a short distance in the direction of Klagenfurt before turning left into Andreas-Ebner-Weg. The asphalt road soon turns into a path and without changing direction, you walk along it until you finally reach the Loiblpass road. You cross the main road to the west and pass Kirschentheuer south of the bathing lake "Ratz". After the lake, keep to the right at a fork in the road, cross the railroad tracks of the Rosentaler Nostalgiebahn, take the next road to the left at the wayside shrine and hike through the village of Laiplach to Kappel an der Drau (Ferlach - Kappel a. d. Drau: 4.8 km). Continue from the church to the west to Weizelsdorf. Here you keep to the left before the railroad underpass and now walk parallel to the rails to St. Johann im Rosental (Kappel a. d. Drau - St. Johann i. Rosental: approx. 3 km). Before you reach the church, a path leads to the right to the main road. Cross the road, pass the fire station (middle path) and follow the road for about 600 m before turning left at a small settlement (to the right of the road) and walking via Hundsdorf to Sala. After a few meters you reach the Drau road L 106, first keep to the right, and then after about 200 m, before the Drau bridge, turn left onto the Drau cycle path. After another 200 m, follow the signs to the Juritz campsite/guesthouse, also to the left, and then turn right at the next fork in the road (north of the campsite). You now walk straight ahead until you reach Suetschach (St. Johann i. Rosental - Suetschach: approx. 5.6 km). Here you turn right and walk to the Drau cycle path, along which you continue to the Sport & Family Resort WAHAHA. Cross the resort to the north and, before you reach the main road, turn right onto a cycle path that leads directly to the bridge at Suhagraben. Here you cross the small Dürrenbach at a wooden bridge and continue along the Drau cycle path in a loop to St. Oswald and further until you reach the main road again. It now goes a short distance along the sidewalk to the west, then you turn left in the direction of the train station and finally reach the beginning of Maria Elend via a path at the edge of the forest (Suetschach - Maria Elend: approx. 7.2 km). Follow the road along the sidewalk into the village and turn left to the pilgrimage church. You leave Maria Elend again to the west along the road and after about 500 m you come to a crossroads. Here you turn left and follow the road to Tallach. Just before reaching the Rosenbach brook, the path now leads - since the bike path bridge can no longer be used due to the recent storms - northwards towards the main road. Cross the sidewalk of the road bridge until you reach the first crossroad, turn left here and after about 500 m you reach the old path again, which now leads westwards to the large crossroads at the fire station. Now it is only a short distance to the church of St. Jakob, the destination of the day's stage (Maria Elend - St. Jakob i. Rosental: 4.5 km).
