Wörthersee Rundwanderweg - the somewhat different hiking destination

The lovely landscape around Lake Wörthersee is not a mountain landscape. Firstly, gentle hills dominate here, secondly green forests and thirdly wide forest paths. In addition, the Mediterranean feeling and the view of the beautiful turquoise-blue of Lake Wörthersee is omnipresent.

On the one hand, the Wörthersee circular hiking trail offers a sun-flooded hiking landscape. On the other hand, there are also a whopping 55km and 1400 metres of altitude difference. A really big challenge for hikers!

For this reason, many hikers divide the entire route into smaller individual sections and hike the circular trail in manageable stages. With the 50% discount of the Wörthersee PlusCard on the Wörthersee Schifffahrt, this can be ideally done by boat.

Alternatively, public buses are available on the south shore or the train on the north shore. Thus, one can either comfortably get to the starting points of the partial routes by public transport. Or from the end point of the day back to your accommodation.

Lake Wörthersee circular hiking trail - detailed information

The terrain is hilly with some steep ascents and descents (altitudes from 440 to 850 metres, approx. +/- 1,400 metres), the route runs for the most part in a densely wooded area, with magnificent views of both Lake Wörthersee and the Karawanken.

The circular hiking trail can be started and interrupted at will (the best places to do so are the landing stages around the lake and the railway stations) and can be walked on in both directions. If you don't want to interrupt, you should not be irritated by the "feeder paths" (such as those from Krumpendorf and Pörtschach), which are usually marked blue-white-blue!

And in between always highlights

Zillhöhe, Pirkerkogel, Hohe Gloriette and Trattnigteich are recommended as special resting points. And there is no way around a detour to the Pyramidenkogel anyway.
