At the summit of the Ferlacher Spitze (1742 m), with a view of the Mittagskogel
The Ferlacher Spitze is the satellite of the mighty Mittagskogel, visible from afar. Although the summit is much lower than its big brother next door at 1742 meters, the ascent is no less rewarding. To get used to it, a wide goods trail leads from the starting point at Tschemernitzen up to the Rossalm at an altitude of 1080 meters. Here, a hut run by the Slovenian Alpine Club, which is open at weekends in the summer months, invites you to linger. From this point, the trail becomes a little more strenuous: a steadily ascending forest path leads to the Berta hut at 1567 meters. Here you can take another break before tackling the half-hour, very steep ascent to the Ferlacher Spitze. The reward is not only the magnificent view of the turquoise-blue Faaker See, but also the impressive sight of the Mittagskogel at close range. As with all mountain tours, sturdy footwear and good equipment are a must.
