The Wörthersee region is very proud of its well-known faces in the cycling scene. Especially when they are not sparing with honest compliments about the racing suitability of the surroundings. Our globetrotters have experienced all facets of cycling and give Lake Wörthersee a very good report card as their home or adopted home. The region is a real insider tip, because in contrast to the well-known classics, it is still not very crowded and still offers (almost year-round) all the possibilities. Especially when the northern side of the Alps is often still covered with snow, Carinthia already undertakes trips at quite mild temperatures. Also a reason for zahrleichen amateur bike teams to collect altitude meters already in spring at the Wörthersee.

Johnny Hoogerland Ex-professional cycling legend and Wörtherseer by choice

Peloton legend, Dutch national road race champion, Tour de France polka dot jersey wearer, and best known for his horrific fall into barbed wire.

After his eventful professional career, Johnny Hoogerland has settled with his family in Velden on Lake Wörthersee. Better still, he runs his own guesthouse here and is intensively involved in racing cycling on Lake Wörthersee. When Johnny longs for relaxation, he has discovered gravel biking for himself and regularly chases his BMC URS over the gravel paths and trails in the region.

The Velo Wörthersee project, which Johnny is involved in, is aimed at like-minded guests from the local road bike community and reveals all the insider tips you need to know as a road bike or gravel enthusiast.
