Wörthersee solstice hike
The Wörthersee solstice hike is a hike of a special kind. Every year, about 500 hiking enthusiasts from the entire Alpe-Adria region take part in the 62km stretch. In 2019, due to the enormous popularity, a 25km route (250 limited starting places) will be offered for the first time. Please register early enough, the tickets are strictly limited!
The popularity of the hiking events is easily explained. First of all, it leads counterclockwise around Austria's most beautiful lake. And secondly, participants can experience the magical moment of sunrise and relive the spiritual experience of the summer solstice all to themselves. Other unforgettable experience stations such as "the jump over the fire" or the "fire show" perfectly complement the hiking event.
The Ultra Hike is an ideal opportunity to get together with hiking friends and spend an eventful weekend at Lake Wörthersee.
This event, like the Wörthersee Ultra Trail (3rd September weekend), the Golden Autumn Hike on 26th October and the Wörthersee EXTREM (1st Saturday after New Year's Day), is organised by Wörthersee Tourismus in cooperation with the Mach3 association.

Wörthersee solstice hike - An experience - no competition
The Wörthersee solstice hike is to be understood as a unique hiking experience. The 62km long long hike should be seen as a challenge in itself. It also includes a spiritual experience, the summer solstice. On the one hand the conscious perception of the change of seasons should be in the centre. The "connecting with nature". And on the other hand the participants should be able to experience the beauty of the landscape around Lake Wörthersee from a different perspective. While hiking through the night.
So the Wörthersee Solstice Hike is in no way about a specific time for the circular walk. It is about an experience and to enjoy the hiking and the landscape with like-minded people.
Wörthersee solstice hike Facts
Hiking is possible in all weathers, counterclockwise along the Wörthersee circular trail (blue and white markings / yellow information boards) from Pörtschach. The route is sufficiently signposted.
In addition, there are pacemakers on the route who are familiar with the area and serve as orientation for the participants.

Route length: Ultra hike 62 km or half distance 25 km (ends at the Pyramidenkogel, then bus shuttle to Reifnitz - boat trip to Pörtschach)
Vertical meters: a total of 1,800 vertical meters
Walking time: approx. 12 - 16 hours (official end at the finish 16.00 hrs)
Route: Wörthersee circular hiking trail (anti-clockwise)
Catering: 4 refreshment stations along the route with free drinks and snacks (in addition to personal catering) and pasta plates at the finish.
Please also take cash for a possible stay in a guesthouse/ supermarket.
Sunrise: approx. 4.30 am (PYRAMIDENKOGEL)

Emergencies: In an emergency, the rescue team must be notified via 144 or mountain rescue via 112. Therefore a mobile phone is mandatory for all participants.

Mach3 is a regional trail running club that cooperates very closely with us in the hiking and trail running events. At the Wörthersee Sonnwendwanderung Mach3 is responsible for the "sportive management" and the refreshment stations.
The club offers all trail running friends the opportunity to be on the move with like-minded people in the Wörthersee region.
