Hohe Gloriette
An alternative to strolling along the lakeside promenade: The viewpoint Hohe Gloriette offers a great panoramic view over Lake Wörthersee from Maria Wörth to Velden and the mountain range of the Karawanken behind it.
The small white columned pavilion above Pörtschach can be reached by a 40-minute uphill walk through the forest, starting from Schloss Leonstain and following the hiking trail to Hohe Gloriette.
At the site of Hohe Gloriette, there is said to have been a watchtower during Roman times. Around 1150, a noble family that had immigrated from the Rhineland built the "Seeburg" at the location of today's Hohe Gloriette. The Seeburg gradually fell into disrepair and is now only preserved in remnants. During the tourism boom in Pörtschach, the columned pavilion "Hohe Gloriette" was erected at this site as an observation point.
Coming from the west (Velden): After the OMV gas station or before Schloss Leonstain, turn left - follow the path and signposts for "Hohe Gloriette."
