Alpe Adriatic Trail

The Alpe-Adria-Trail connects the three regions Carinthia, Slovenia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia on a total of 43 stages. It leads first from the foot of the Großglockner through the most beautiful Carinthian mountain and lake regions. Then, without major detours, it takes you close to the crossroads of the three countries Austria, Italy, Slovenia and on to the Adriatic Sea to Muggia.

Enjoyable hiking is the main focus of the trail. The Alpe-Adria-Trail runs mainly in the non-alpine area and as far as possible with little difference in altitude. The stages are about 20 kilometres long and require a walking time of about 6 hours and are uniformly signposted. Each stage leads along a defined route that can be walked in both directions. It offers at least one attractive culinary excursion destination and ends at a place with appropriate overnight accommodation.

The Alpe-Adria-Trail runs on existing paths, connects them and has a corresponding hiking trail quality. On each stage there are several landmarks which have a considerable influence on the hiking rhythm. In the future each stage will have at least one "magic place", a special place, a place of harmony of the four elements. These places already exist, they are "jewels of the landscape", of great intensity for the observer. Through gentle interventions they invite the viewer to linger. They not only let the landscape be seen, but also felt.

Stopover on the Alpe-Adria-Trail

The Wörthersee is an important stopover. For those long-distance hikers who complete the trail in sections at different times, it is either a temporary end point or a starting point. For all others it is a place to draw new physical and mental strength, to take a deep breath and set off for the Julian Alps with new inspiration and energy.

At the same time, many hikers enjoy the wide range of culinary delights on offer in Velden. Or they treat their tired legs to a well-deserved break at the Velden lido.
