MENSHHEITSDÄMMERUNG Painting of the Interwar Period 1918-1938

The exhibition "real : abstract" presents the works of Richard Kaplenig and Julian Taupe, two artists who take opposing positions in painting.

Taupe works abstractly with a colorful palette, creating infinite, reference-free color worlds in the finest abstract manner.

Kaplenig represents a realistic direction, formulating his subjects in a naturalistic way, predominantly in puristic black and white. He uses focus and magnification to ultimately neutralize the subject through an enormous increase in presence in favor of purely formal-aesthetic values and contemplative power.

This artistic contrast forms the basis for a dialogue that not only highlights the diversity of contemporary painting but also underscores the freedom and relevance of the medium. The works emphasize the specific approaches and unique stature of both artists, who coexist equally side by side and impressively expand the spectrum of painting.
