Tony Holiday has something that brings people together. In fact, community has been at the core of Holiday's young career from the beginning. Since moving from Salt Lake City to Memphis in 2017, Holiday has been at the center of a soul-blues revival in Memphis, supported by a contingent of young, skilled, well-educated musicians with a "family" attitude and a strong faith in one another.
Guided by legends of the past, Holiday and this loose collective from Memphis build on and carry forward the rich traditions of the city.
Motel Mississippi, Holiday's second solo album, was recorded about an hour outside of Memphis in Coldwater, Mississippi, at Zebra Ranch, the studio of the late great Memphis legend Jim Dickinson (The Rolling Stones, Big Star). Motel Mississippi combines the sounds of North Mississippi Hill Country, Delta blues, and Memphis soul, creating a hypnotic blend of blues, driving soul, and juke-joint stompers.
